PARK TECHNICIAN (BALL FIELDS)

On-the-Job Training: This position includes hands-on training provided by experienced Parks & Recreation staff. New team members learn athletic field maintenance, equipment operation, irrigation systems, & safe chemical handling through daily guidance & real-world experience. Training also supports the development of leadership skills by assisting with the coordination & supervision of seasonal staff. This structured learning environment encourages continuous improvement & skill-building. The role supports long-term career growth by offering experience that builds a strong foundation in municipal parks & recreation operations.

Duties:
· Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in ball field operations, dragging, watering, chalking, tamping, paint striping & other ball field preparations.
· Completes construction projects of ball field facilities, public buildings, city areas, & grounds.
· Performs maintenance & operations of athletic fields & grounds including, but not limited to, mowing, sodding, seeding, killing weeds, irrigation & spraying.
· Identifies nuisance weeds & takes appropriate action with chemicals to counteract; prepares chemicals for use on plant materials.
· Provides custodial services for facilities, grounds, & dugouts; removal of trash/litter, including occasional cleaning of restrooms.
· Operates tractor or skid steer with attachments; operates power tools, blowers, sweepers, edger’s, chain saws, trimmers, clippers, sprayers, rakes, shovels & variety of other equipment or vehicles.
· Services & performs minor repairs to equipment.
· Installs, operates, & maintains ball field equipment & in-ground sprinkler systems.
· Opens & closes facilities.
· Meets with seasonal staff to assign daily duties; assists in training, supervision, & evaluation of seasonal employees.
· Supervises a small group of seasonal workers in grounds maintenance.

Education:
· High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience:
· One (1) to two (2) years ball fields maintenance experience and/or staff & facilities supervision.
· Knowledge of baseball, softball, & soccer fields maintenance such as dimensions & laying them out.

Requirements:
· Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Work Type:
· Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
· Extensive amount of walking required.
· Works inside & outside (Primarily outside); adverse conditions possible.

Equipment: 
· Aerifiers, blowers, chain saws, clippers, computer, edger’s, hand/power tools, man lift, mowers, power tools, pumps, rakes, shovels, skid steers, sprayers, sweepers, tablet, telephone, tractors, trimmers, utility vehicles, & variety of other equipment & vehicles.

Hours:
· Monday – Friday.
· 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
· Works varied schedule & responds to callouts.

Starting Pay DOQ:
· $20.12-21.13/hr.
· $41,850-43,950/yr.
· Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.

Paid Time Off:
· 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
· 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
