RECREATION ASSISTANT I
CASHIER / DECK ATTENDANT
(15 yrs. of age or older)
· Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor &/or Assistant Managers.
· This classification is the entry level of the recreation assistant series working under immediate supervision.
· This classification is categorized as part-time or seasonal in support of programs at the Kenwood Cove Waterpark.
Cashier Duties:
· Greets customers entering the waterpark & assists guests by providing program & class information.
· Assists waterpark patrons.
· Responsible for taking admission fees.
· Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
· Issues receipts or change due to customers.
· Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct & that there is adequate change.
· Counts money in cash drawers at the end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct & all monies are accounted for.
· Balances cash drawer by comparing register totals with currency, checks & credit card transactions.
· Maintains clean & orderly checkout areas.
· Responds in emergency situations in any capacity within scope of training.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Deck Attendant Duties:
· Assists with custodial work & maintenance of the waterpark facilities & grounds.
· Uses hand tools to clean the pool & pool area.
· Identifies & conducts minor repairs.
· Sweeps pool decks.
· Picks up litter & empties trash.
· Cleans tables, chairs & equipment.
· Helps to set-up private parties & events.
· Performs ground work such as weed removal.
· Responds in emergency situations in any capacity within scope of training.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
· Eighth grade graduate.
Experience:
· One (1) year previous work in retail sales, handling money, making change, working with the public, general computer skills, record keeping, &/or custodial work.
Equipment:
· Cashier: Telephones, cash registers, calculators, speaker system, CivicRec computer program, & computer
· Deck Attendant: Rakes, skimmers, nets, brushes, hoses, handheld pool vacuums, brooms, mops, hand tools & janitorial supplies.
Desired Qualifications:
· Must be able to follow instructions.
· Maintains a high standard of customer service.
· Maintains positive & cooperative working relationships.
· Works indoors/outdoors in changing environmental conditions; must be able to work in temperatures which often exceeds 90 degrees.
· Communicates well with staff & patrons of various ages from diverse backgrounds.
· Demonstrates kindness to staff & patrons & presents professional attitude at all times.
· Must be able to communicate verbally & in writing.
· Must be able to perform mathematical calculations.
Requirements:
· Performs all job tasks according to rules, guidelines, & expectations of Aquatics Supervisor.
· Must have reliable transportation to-and-from work.
· Must be available to work shifts.
· Must attend required trainings & meetings.
· Required to review posted event calendars.
· Must follow scheduling protocols & be able to obtain weekly work schedule.
· Must follow time & attendance guidelines.
· Must adhere to payroll requirements.
· Must respond in a timely manner to all forms of communication regarding City of Salina employment by way of phone calls, emails, texts, etc.
· Must be able to lift 10-40 pounds frequently.
Pay:
$11.00 -13.00/hr. DOQ
RECREATION ASSISTANT II
HEAD CASHIER/ DECK ATTENDANT
(16 yrs. of age or older)
· Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor &/or Aquatics Manger.
· This classification is mid-level in the recreation assistant series working under general supervision.
· This classification is categorized as part-time or seasonal in support of programs at the Kenwood Cove Waterpark.
· Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of Kenwood Cover program activities, facilities, policies, & procedures.
Head Cashier Duties:
· Capable to fulfill the duties of Recreation Assistant I (Cashier) position, as required.
· Supervises Recreation Assistant I’s (Cashiers) in absence of the Aquatics Supervisor and/or Assistant Managers.
· Oversees cash handling done by Recreation Assistant I employees (Cashiers), as assigned.
· Accepts & verifies deposits.
· Locates transaction errors & balance deposits.
· Greets customers entering the waterpark & assists guests by providing program & class information.
· Assists waterpark patrons.
· Resolves patron complaints.
· Sells passes & enrolls patrons in swim classes.
· Responsible for taking admission fees.
· Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
· Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
· Processes refunds through a computer generated system.
· Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct & that there is adequate change.
· Counts money in cash drawers at the end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct & all monies are accounted for.
· Balances cash drawer by comparing register totals with currency, checks & credit card transactions, coupons & voids/refunds.
· Maintains clean & orderly checkout areas.
· Administers basic first aid, if needed.
· Responds in emergency situations in any capacity within scope of training.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Head Deck Attendant Duties:
· Responsible for supervising the maintenance & upkeep of Kenwood Cove Waterpark.
· Responsible to fulfill the duties of Recreation Assistant I’s (Deck Attendants) position as needed.
· Oversees the work of Recreation Assistant I employees (Deck Attendants), as assigned.
· Responsible for custodial work & maintenance of the waterpark facilities & grounds.
· Reports water quality to Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatics Supervisor.
· Uses hand tools to clean the pool & pool area.
· Performs water cleaning.
· Identifies & repairs cracks & leaks; conducts minor repairs.
· Cleans & sanitizes bathrooms.
· Sweeps pool decks.
· Maintains supply cabinets.
· Picks up litter & empties trash.
· Keeps furniture & fixtures in good condition.
· Cleans tables, chairs & equipment.
· Helps to set-up private parties & events.
· Performs ground work such as weed removal.
· Administers basic first aid, if needed.
· Responds in emergency situations in any capacity within scope of training.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
· High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience:
· Employed for one (1) year in Recreation Assistant I position or demonstrated experience and/or skills to advance to Recreation Assistant II position.
· Two (2) years previous work in retail sales, handling money, making change, working with the public, general computer skills, record keeping and/or custodial work.

Hours:
· Must be able to work from Mid-May to Mid-August during hours of operation.
· Must be able to work weekends and/or holidays (i.e. Memorial Weekend & Fourth of July) & special events (i.e. Smoky Hill River Festival, private parties).
