The role of a Flag Football Official in Salina is an exciting & challenging opportunity that plays a vital part in fostering community spirit & youth development. By ensuring fair play & sportsmanship, it contributes to creating a positive environment where young athletes can thrive & build lifelong skills. This vibrant & dynamic role is critical to the success of local sports programs & serves as a cornerstone for community engagement & enjoyment.
Duties:
· Officiates flag football games by applying & knowing the rules & regulations.
· Uses a flag or hand gesture to signal penalty calls such as offsides, blocking, or any other illegal plays.
· Maintains concentration on the game & reacts quickly to rule violations.
· Ensures games are conducted safely & fairly, maintaining control over game circumstances.
· Manages & resolves on-field player disputes, applying penalties & disciplinary actions when necessary.
· Keeps track of time & calls for halftime or any other breaks in play.
· Ensure the playing area is safe & equipment is in proper condition before each game.
· Works with coaches & other officials to ensure the code of ethics to the game is applied.
· Attend pre-game meetings with officials & coaches to review rules & expectations.
· Completes & submits game reports, documenting any incidents or issues that occur.
· Promotes safe play & sportsmanship among athletes.
· Responds to emergency situations within the scope of training.
· Administers basic first aid, if needed.
Education:
· High school or G.E.D.
· Eighth (8th) grade graduate minimum.
Certifications:
· CPR & First Aid certifications desired.
Experience:
· Thorough understanding of flag football rules & regulations.
· Previous officiating experience & working with children preferred but not required.
Requirements:
· Must be sixteen (16) years of age or older, due to games running past 9 pm.
· This is a non-driving position.
· Must be available to work scheduled games.
· Must attend the required training & meetings.
· Must respond in a timely manner to all forms of communication regarding City of Salina employment by way of phone calls, emails, texts, etc.
· Ability to be on feet & actively move throughout games.
· Must be able to pass background checks.
Hours:
· Up to 8-10 hours per week, evenings only.
· Monday through Saturday.
Pay DOQ:
· $28.00-32.00/game
