STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Public Works/Streets
Duties: Performs a variety of skilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies.
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: One (1) year construction or maintenance work preferred.
Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver's license at hire; preferred possession of a valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake & tanker endorsements, or obtain within one (1) year from employment start date.
The City of Salina will pay enrollment fees & hourly wages for employees to attend Class B CDL training at Salina Area Technical College.
Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Hours: Workweek generally Monday-Friday.
Starting pay: $19.93-20.93/hr. DOQ
• Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.
Paid Time Off:
• 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
• 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
