Property Maintenance Inspector I
Duties: Performs inspection work enforcing compliance with property maintenance codes & city ordinances; tours the city & notes code violations & other problems; enforces such codes dealing with weeds, storage of refuse, abandoned vehicles, signs, property maintenance & other related matters; issues violation notices; makes follow-up inspections to determine compliance; orders abatements for non-compliance; prepares evidence & appears in court; recommends amendments to codes & ordinances; maintains records, enters data & conducts database searches.
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in code enforcement, building & zoning inspection, building or facility maintenance, law enforcement, or related field.
Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Work Type: Medium, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Starting pay: $19.93/hr.-20.93/hr.) DOQ
Property Maintenance Inspector II
Duties: Performs inspection work enforcing compliance with building & property maintenance codes & city ordinances; performs technical work in housing inspections, housing rehabilitation & nuisance abatements to bring existing properties up to the standards of the minimum housing & property maintenance codes; inspects construction sites; initiates life safety concerns & recommends compliance through correction notices, verbal requests & written correspondence; reviews complaints received; initiates inspection & attempts voluntary compliance or issues written violations pertaining to adopted property maintenance, building & zoning codes; assists administrative staff in completion of computerized record system documentation & assists with violation notice(s) issuance upon inspections; assists Salina Fire Department, Salina Police Department & other agencies with special inspections; assists with housing rehabilitation programs; serves as the liaison between the city & grant administrators; assists with Emergency Housing Rehabilitation Fund program & Homeowner Assistance Fund for housing rehabilitation.
Education & experience equivalent to the following:
-High school diploma or G.E.D.
-Two (2) years of experience as a Property Maintenance Inspector I.
-Vocational training plus three (3) years of building construction trade and/or inspection experience including plan reading, interpreting construction drawings & techniques with building, plumbing, mechanical & electrical systems.
-One (1) certification by ICC or IAPMO as a building, plumbing, mechanical or electrical inspector required within one (1) year from the start date of employment.
-Journeyman or master plumbing, mechanical or electrical license based on passage of the Experior/Prometric examination in lieu of certification accepted
-General knowledge of building codes required.
