LANDFILL OPERATOR II
Public Works/Salina Municipal Landfill
Duties: Performs duties in operation of the City of Salina’s Municipal Landfill Skilled; performs skilled work in horizontal construction; provides over-site of the facility & crew in the absence of a supervisor; operates compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers & similar equipment at the municipal solid waste landfill & in various assignments; performs manual labor; assists in planning fill cells; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste at landfill; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; mows grounds; maintains landfill roads; extinguishes fires at landfill; performs equipment maintenance checks & repairs to; welds; prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs & special wastes; operates the scale house as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment with one (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment; basic computer skills for data entry into the Waste Works program; ability to operate office machines such as credit card machines.
Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license at hire; preferred possession of a valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake & tanker endorsements, or obtain within one (1) year from start date.
Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Hours: This position rotates shifts each quarter.
1st Shift: Monday - Thursday (6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
2nd Shift: Wednesday- Friday (6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) & Saturday (6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
Starting pay: $20.92-21.97/hr. DOQ
